Dugger, Edward

The City of Aventura commissioned this $7 million, 320-seat performing arts facility to showcase acoustic and amplified music events, dance, off-Broadway shows, oratory, and video productions for all age groups. The traditional proscenium theatre features an elegant lobby with ticket box office and café, backstage support, and administrative space. In order to fit all of these uses on an extremely tight site, Ed worked carefully with the architect and client group to arrange spaces efficiently. He also worked with the project team’s mechanical engineers to create a small noise footprint in order to meet noise-limit requirements of the surrounding community. The project included several energy-efficient concepts, including under-floor air supply in the audience area and the extensive use of LED house lights and LED performance lighting fixtures.
This 42,000 sf marine science research building is located on the channel in Fort Pierce. The graduate study research building serves as a catalyst for the campus' new architectural style. The 2-story building features 3 modular buildings that house laboratories, laboratory support and office space. Two architectural knuckles accommodate additional support space for the researchers. In total there are 18 lab lines grouped in 3's with 10' X 6" modules, 40 offices and four bull pens housing 5 to 6 researchers, all with views to the waterfront. The 3-story glass enclosed lobby serves as a beacon of science identifiable from the campus entry, the waterfront channel and the campus as a whole.
This 32,000 SF project includes a 300 seat multi-function auditorium, stage, and backstage ancillary areas. These spaces are exemplary in their architectural and functional design and support the wide range of users. Edward Dugger +Associates provided consulting services in room acoustics, sound isolation, audio/video design, and noise and vibration control of mechanical and electrical systems.
The New World Symphony’s campus is a unique performance and creation venue in the heart of Miami Beach. Developed as an educational, rehearsal, and performance facility for the New World Symphony, the Frank Gehry-designed facility includes a 756-seat flexible concert hall with a concert platform for a full orchestra and a surrounding choral terrace for up to 200 voices. The facility houses a large rehearsal hall, several ensemble rehearsal rooms, and 24 individual practice rooms. The electronic recording and editing capabilities are extensive, allowing full audio and video productions to be broadcast throughout the world. Edward Dugger + Associates worked from the beginning of the construction phase through project completion and commissioning to make sure the acoustic design intent was met, especially concerning room isolation, quiet background noise levels, and noisy equipment integration/isolation. The project has become a success for the New World Symphony organization and an impressive addition to the Miami Beach Music Scene.
